Passport
To Airlie

Australia's largest live original music initiative

Passport to Airlie is Australia’s largest live, original music showcase. Events are held in regional areas around Australia, allowing for a broad range of genres, participants and audiences. It allows for local venues to show their support of live and original grassroots music in their community. We know that every headline artist you have ever seen was once a band trying to convince a venue that should be able to play originals.

Registering for the competition

How to Apply

Applications for 2024 have closed. Call back early next year for 2025 event info.

  1. Read the Terms & Conditions before entering to ensure you are eligible.
  2. Fill in the Registration form below.
  3. Be sure to upload clear photos of you or your band as well as either music videos (YouTube / Vimeo) and/or audio (Spotify / SoundCloud) so that we can listen to your music. Lack of supporting material may be grounds for you not to be considered for a slot if there are a large number of entries in your region. This is happening increasingly.
  4. All applications will be reviewed to ensure their suitability for the Festival and if selected you will be notified which event you have been slotted into and forwarded an information pack. Unfortunately no guarantees can be given to artists wanting to perform at a certain event or time.
  5. If you have an EPK we would love to use that. Include a link in the bio.

Need to know more?

Entries are now open! Get in quick. Read the T&C’s to make sure you qualify and then fill in the entry form.

Our regional and national teams will review your entry to ensure that you meet the entry criteria as set out in the Terms & Conditions. From there you will receive a Welcome message from your host if you meet the criteria and a quick “Why not?” if you don’t. From here your regional host will be in contact about dates and venues for your chance to perform! In the meantime if you have any queries DM the Passport To Airlie Facebook page and we will do what we can.

Care and effort goes into inviting judges to our events.  All judges are there on a voluntary basis and are primarily industry professionals and have experience and a viewpoint that we respect. Our score sheets have been developed over years to try to assess the varying qualities and characteristics that we feel make up an artist/act with potential. The score sheet makes all of these aspects visibly accountable to try maintain transparency in our events.

Like our parent event Airlie Beach Festival of Music, we like to mix things up. We do try and keep pre-recorded aspects to a minimum and expect artists to be able to perform their set live (there are some T&C’s that clarify this). So this can mean everything from hip-hop through to blues and some heavy rock and folk pop!  We definitely have had some metal entries over the years but it tends to not lean into heavy too much. Our 2023 winner Avalanche is about as heavy as tends to make it through to judging.
